DB Systel - migration of applications to the AWS cloud

DB Systel GmbH planned the migration of very large workloads to the AWS cloud. As a framework contract partner, iSAX GmbH & Co. KG was contracted to support the implementation of large-scale AWS projects for the internal group customers.

Goal

DB Systel GmbH, as the IT service provider and digitization expert for the Deutsche Bahn Group, planned the migration of very large workloads to the AWS cloud. This required the extension and adaptation of various applications to the AWS cloud environment.

Implementation

iSAX was awarded a multi-year framework contract in the area of cloud consulting by Deutsche Bahn AG at the end of 2016 on the basis of an EU-wide tender - with the aim of supporting the migration of applications operated by DB Systel to the DB Enterprise Cloud (AWS).

Since mid-2017, iSAX cloud experts have supported almost throughout the entire migration period with

  • the consulting in the context of cloud development, cloud architecture and cloud operation in the AWS Cloud,
  • the analysis of existing non-cloud applications (data center operation) with the goal of migrating to cloud-based operation,
  • the setup of AWS cloud infrastructure as well as installation and acceptance of applications in the built AWS environment.

Benefit

Key workloads and applications were successfully migrated to the AWS cloud.
